The
Personal Communication Services division combines the group's mobile service activities
throughout the world,
mainly under its Orange brand.
The activity is driven by the markets with potential for growth (Central and
Eastern Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean, Asia). On the mature markets,
it is affected by reductions in call termination prices decided by the regulator,
in a highly competitive environment. These markets are thus enhanced by growing
mobile usage of data communications and the new mobile Broadband universe.
There were 117.6 million mobile customers at 30 September 2008, an increase of
12.0% year on year on a comparable basis. The number of mobile broadband customers
was up sharply, at 23.2 million at 30 September 2008 compared with 12.8 million
at 30 September 2007, an increase of 81% year on year.
mobile communications for everyone
The mobile has become an indispensable and personal friend on all five continents.
Its worldwide growth is impressive. Never before has a technology spread as quickly
on this scale. It is estimated that in 2007 the mobile had seduced 3 billion customers
throughout the world. Whether in
emerging markets or more mature ones,
the group provides mobile service offers adapted for every need.
the world in the palm of your hand

a range of services designed to meet every need. It proposes a wide variety of
offers and “packaged” services including an exclusive line of handsets. Everything
is geared to simplification and personalization.
At the cutting edge of developments in the mobile telecommunications market,
the group pursues a policy of systematic innovation, in particular by proposing
enriched, simplified and convergent services and by continuing to offer an exclusive range
of handsets, the Orange Signature.
The Orange World mobile portal opens the doors to mobile internet and allows
users on the move to access a world of services and digital entertainment (television,
sport, music, movies, etc.).
mobile broadband
The group considers the development of mobile Broadband and related technologies
(Edge, UMTS, HSDPA) to be a strategic priority and an activity with strong potential
for growth. This is why it seeks to be a leader in these services in Europe. Mobile
Broadband is being adopted in the daily life of more and more customers and opens
a new universe of services, such as, for example, gaming, music, video or even
corporate services.
In 2006, the group started to offer exclusively a high definition image for Orange
TV mobile television. With speeds five times faster for data transmission, very
high-speed Broadband allows the possibility of even more mobile applications.
